NOMINATING COMMITTEE Church Information Form - Part 1 December 2007: Status Report As most members are aware, the candidate we called last summer withdrew his name from consideration just a few days prior to the congregational meeting that would have confirmed the terms of call. There was no second choice waiting in the wings. Disappointing, yes, but we immediately began to review new Personal Information Forms submitted by candidates. Through the fall, we reviewed PIFs, listened to sermons, conducted telephone interviews and some traveled to hear candidates in their home pulpits. As of August 2007, we had reviewed 111 candidates. Today, the total number of PIFs reviewed is 186. We will not stop until we discover the candidate God has prepared for Lewinsville. This is a process that cannot be hurried. It is necessarily slow and deliberate, but the PNC will keep the congregation informed on its progress through periodic reports in the newsletter and bulletin. We ask Lewinsville members to continue to keep the work of the PNC in your prayers. April 2007: Status Report Update from Pastor Nominating Committee As of this week, nearly 100 PIFs (resumes) from pastors around the nation have been received by the PNC. The committee has conducted a careful and thorough review of all. Many of them are outstanding candidates but, as of this report, none has met all established criteria. Nevertheless, very real progress is being made. A number of telephone interviews have taken place, references of some are being called, and committee members are visiting home churches of candidates to evaluate preaching skills. The process is necessarily lengthy and the committee asks for the congregation's continued prayers as we seek to discern the candidate God is calling to Lewinsville. January 2007: Status Report As the new year begins, the Pastor Nominating Committee is hard at work reviewing Pastor Information Forms (PIFs) submitted by candidates interested in the position, Pastor/Head of Staff at Lewinsville. Each new week brings more PIFs for review. As you may recall, the Church Information Form (CIF) was completed in September and approved by Session in October. Advertising of the position commenced immediately in the Presbyterian publication, Outlook, both print and online editions. The position was also posted on the websites of Lewinsville and the National Capital Presbytery. The first batch of PIFs came from the Church Leadership Connection of PC(USA) which matched our requirements with its database of pastors in literally every corner of the nation. Through the fall and early winter, interest has been expressed by pastors who have seen the advertisement or heard of the vacancy through clergy friends. Altogether, more than 60 PIFs have been reviewed by the search committee, and several have moved to the next phase which will include evaluation of sermons and responses to candidate-specific questions. The process is necessarily lengthy. Still to come are phone interviews, visitation by committee members to hear sermons in person, face to face interviews, etc. Through each stage we will continue to accept PIFs until we find the pastor God has selected to answer the call from Lewinsville Presbyterian Church. September 2006: Pastor Nominating Committee Completes First Phase of Search The Pastor Nominating Committee recently completed preparation of the required Church Information Form (CIF), a document to be used by prospective candidates to understand Lewinsville’s requirements and to learn more about our congregation. Session will be asked to approve the CIF at its October meeting. When approved, the CIF will be posted on Lewinsville’s website and submitted to PC(USA) where computers will attempt the first match of candidates with our requirements. Advertising the position will follow through PC(USA) publications and the website of the National Capital Presbytery. In addition, visitors to Lewinsville’s website will find a link on the home page to a summary of the CIF’s requirements. While the summary will not offer the comprehensive detail of the CIF, the committee believes it will be helpful for those who seek a brief but accurate description of the job. Session will be asked at its October meeting to approve a minimum/maximum salary range that can be used in negotiations with the final candidate when selected. Your PNC soon will begin to receive Pastor Information Forms (PIFs) from interested candidates. We are grateful to the members of the congregation who provided suggestions for key qualities and skills the PNC should search for in potential candidates. We incorporated many of your suggestions in the CIF’s required description of the position. Thank you for your support of our work, and we ask for your continued prayers as we pursue the June 2006: The Pastoral Nominating Committee was elected by the congregation on Sunday, June 4th. November 2005: On November 15, 2005, the Reverend Fred Lyon began his Interim Pastoral Ministry at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church. During this time, this web page will be used to provide information to the congregation as it becomes available. Rev. Dr. Wilson Gunn, General Presbyter of the National Capital Presbytery, has suggested that the following information contained on the National Capital Presbytery website will be useful for those who are interested in the Pastoral Nominating Committee process:
