The idea that Narnia began as a way to say something to children about Christianity is, according to C.S. Lewis, “moonshine.” He began with an image of the fantasy world, and the Christian themes entered that world naturally. The story that resulted is a marvelous joining of imagination and truth. C.S. Lewis carefully pointed out that this joining is a “supposition” rather than an allegory. He didn’t want his story to be read and broken apart to find out hidden connections. Instead, he constructed the world of Narnia out of his imagination and then “supposed” what God would do to redeem such a world if it existed. His hope was that the story would show an example of what God might do in such a circumstance.

A year after their previous adventure-but a thousand years later, Narnia time—Aslan’s magic draws Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, the children from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, back into Narnia. But with the passage of so much time since last they were in Narnia, little is familiar to them. They find themselves at the ruins of Cair Paravel, where they once reigned as kings and queens of Narnia. A dwarf named Trumpkin finds the children and tells them that Narnia is in great danger because the true heir to the kingdom, Prince Caspian and all of the Narnian creatures who follow Aslan, the creator of Narnia, are in hiding.

In desperation the Narnians had blown Susan’s horn to call Aslan and the children for help. It was this call that had pulled the children into Narnia.

We call on all Narnians to come and join us this Summer as our adventure continues in the “The Return to Narnia”—the Rescue of Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

For five Sundays in July, we will join the Pevensie children as they fight a wicked king who has taken over the kingdom of Narnia and banished all who are known to believe in Aslan and restore the rightful heir to his throne and restore Narnia to it’s former glory.

Our second adventure will take us on the high seas of Narnia as we join Prince Caspian in his search for the seven Lost Lords of Narnia and discover Aslan’s Country.

Sunday April 15 and 22 we will be holding a pre- registration for the Summer Sunday School. You will also be able to place an advance order for one of the Narnia T-shirt designs. Look for this “Early Bird” Registration in St. Andrew’s Hall.

The Horn has sounded! Feel the pull...and…”Return to Narnia” this Summer 2007!

Prince Caspian: More Than Conquerors

This Summer, Aslan’s magic will draw us back into Narnia where we again follow the adventures of the Pevensie children as they fight a wicked king who has taken over the kingdom of Narnia and banished all who are known to believe in Aslan. We will join the children as they
join the rightful heir, Prince Caspian, as he battles for his throne and to restore Narnia to its former glory.

What we will learn from our Adventures:

  • How do we respond to the call of God in our lives?
  • Are we willing to follow Christ no matter what the cost?
  • How can we have joy in the midst of any battle?

This will be the first part of our summer study & will help our
understanding of how we can conquer any battle we face in the name of
Christ.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader: A Heart Set on Eternity

For the second part of our summer adventure, we will hit the high seas of Narnia in the Voyage of the Dawn Treader., and join Prince Caspian in his search for the seven Lords of Narnia & Aslan’s Country. Cruel slave traders, violent storms, firebreathing dragons, enchanted waters, mythical sea creatures, and inner battles of the soul abound throughout our magical journey.

Through our adventures we will learn:

  • What would we look like if our outward appearance reflected our inner character?
  • Why must we rely on God’s power to change our lives?
  • What are the various forms of greed, and how do they affect our choices and character?
  • What are the consequences of fear?
  • How does a focus on eternity affect our daily lives?

In this study we will unearth the treasures of wisdom to be found in this magical adventure of the High seas.

Weekly Schedule:

This July, children, ages 4 to grade 6, are invited each Sunday to
journey to the magical land of Narnia and explore the deep power of faith and belief. We will follow the story through video presentations in weekly segments followed with an exploration of the story’s themes
Through games, art, and drama. This will offer the children the opportunity to consider how they would feel, what they would think and what they would do as they “live” the adventure.

We will deal with the story in five sessions, introducing each with a portion of the BBC video presentation: “Prince Caspian & The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.”

  • July 1: Prince Caspian - The People That lived in Hiding. “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets...but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son.” Hebrews 1:1-2
  • July 8: Prince Caspian - The Return of the Lion. “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27

  • July 22: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader - Going Dragon. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
  • July 29: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader - The Wonders of the Last Sea. “At one time you were in the dark. But now you are in the light because of what the Lord has done. Love like children of the light. The light produces what is completely good, right and true. Ephesians 5:8-9
