Lewinsville Participating in the Patest McLean Interfaith Coalition Habitat Project

Lewinsville Participation in the latest McLean Interfaith Coalition Habitat Project Lewinsville participates with about 8 other local faith communities in the McLean Interfaith Coalition (MIC), which is again sponsoring building new homes through Northern Virginia Habitat for Humanity (NVHFH). Work began early in 2011 on the fifth NVHFH project in which MIC and Lewinsville have participated.

Because of the high cost of land in Northern Virginia, NVHFH’s last three projects have been condominiums. The latest one, Perry Hall, involves the gutting and rebuilding of an existing 3-story multi-family building in South Arlington to provide 12 condominium units. Contractors did the work of ripping out the old interior. Volunteer work days have begun again now that contractors have finished the plumbing and electrical work.

Perry Hall is located at 2912 South 17th Street, Arlington, 22204, off Glebe Road south of Columbia Pike. Work takes place at Perry Hall on Wednesdays and Saturdays. MIC volunteers work two days a month, from 8:00 to 4. Volunteers must be 16 or older, and those who are 16 or 17 must have a signed parental form (available on the NVHFH website). Volunteers provide their own lunches. Habitat provides water and all necessary tools.

If you want to help build affordable housing but can’t take a week to participate in the Summer Mission Project (SMP) or you want to get ready for SMP, here’s the perfect opportunity for you. Come join with other members of McLean congregations to work at Perry Hall. Upcoming MIC volunteer days in October and November are:

• Wednesday, October 26
• Wednesday, November 2
• Saturday, November 19
