RETIREMENT RESIDENCES

For we walk by faith..."
II Corinthians 5:7

Through its diverse mission ministry, Lewinsville Church has worked to develop deeper connections to the community of Northern Virginia. Two of the most significant initiatives have been the development of a retirement community on church grounds and a collaborative effort with two other religious organizations to sponsor and develop an assisted living facility nearby.

Lewinsville Retirement Residence

In 1967, Lewinsville Presbyterian Church acquired 4 acres adjacent to church property and began the process of determining its best use.  Nine years later, church leadership decided its best use would be as an affordable living facility for senior citizens. Thus was “The Lewinsville” born.

Funding for the project was provided through HUD’s Section 202 Program.

Groundbreaking was held May 6, 1979, and sixteen months later, September 29, 1980, The Lewinsville opened its doors to its first residents.

Soon all 144 units were filled. Today, there are more than 150 residents, ranging in age from 60 to 101.

Chesterbrook Residences

Ground was broken in May 2006 for Chesterbrook Residences, a new assisted living facility on Westmoreland Street.

Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, Immanuel Presbyterian and Temple Rodef Shalom coordinated efforts to build the 97-unit residence on land owned by the National Capital Presbytery.  Their goal: To build an affordable home where residents could live out their retirement years secure in the knowledge they will not be displaced due to diminishing personal resources.

In the fall of 2007, doors were opened for the first residents.
