GET CONNECTED with our CHURCH FAMILY … responding to human need

Earth Care Sunday

On Sunday, April 27, Lewinsville will mark our commemoration of Earth Day with Earth Care Sunday. We will once again be joining with Interfaith Power and Light (IPL), a mission partner of Lewinsville, and with other churches, synagogues, and mosques to lift up creation and earth care in our worship services. We do this as a way of affirming that care for the earth is a religious commitment and is part of our responsibility and calling to be stewards of God’s good gifts. It also gives us an opportunity to reflect on the ways that we fall short of God’s call to care for the earth with love.

The Earth Care Worship Service will take place the Sunday after Easter, and our two Scripture texts – Psalm 2 and John 20:19-31 – reflect the tension between trusting and following the Lord and living in resistance and doubt. On Earth Care Sunday, we bring to the Lord our varied concerns about the well-being of the earth, concerns for animals, water, air, trees, soil, and human flourishing. We recognize our own sinfulness that has participated in the degradation, and we ask God to create a new heart within us, so that we will cherish the earth rather than living in ways that harm the earth.
