Lenten Studies Speaker: Professor Rick Elgendy teaches on Atonement Theory

Dr. Elgendy, professor of public theology and ethics at Wesley Seminary, will present a 4-part series on understanding how the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus relate to our salvation (atonement theories.)   He will help us understand how our faith is informed by our understanding of why Jesus’ suffering death matters. 

Session 1 – Guilt and Grace: The Ambivalence of Shame and Sacrifice in Substitutionary             Theories of Atonement

Session 2 – The Way of Love: Reading Moral Exemplarity as God’s Being in Act

Session 3 – Powers and Their Downfall: The Victory of the Weak Christ and the Structures  of the Cosmos

Session 4 – Partakers of the Divine Nature: Recapitulation, The New Creation, and the  Divine Life
