JAZZ and BLUES LONGEST NIGHT SERVICE
In collaboration with Immanuel Presbyterian Church
The Longest Night Service, also referred to as a Blue Christmas Service, is a worship service in Advent on the longest night of the year that honors folks who are grieving or have lost loved ones.
You may think it odd to have a somber service in the middle of the Christmas season. However, if you have experienced loss in the last year all the holiday festivities can make that grief more poignant. Grieving the loss of a loved one, or coming to terms with so much loss during a global pandemic will be centered in this worship service. This service will intertwine Jazz and Blues music with scripture and reflection. Blues songs are typically lyrical rather than narrative and blues singers express feelings of melancholy and sadness through the Blue Notes-specific chord progressions.
Masks are required in our sanctuary and everyone should practice social distancing during this service.
