CHURCH ON FIRE: THE BOOK OF ACTS AND OUR MISSION
THE CHURCH EXISTS BY MISSION, JUST AS A FIRE EXISTS BY BURNING. – EMIL BRUNNER
At the beginning of the book of Acts, the Holy Spirit descends upon the gathered church in “tongues of flame.”
As a result, Jesus’ disciples are empowered and authorized to go out into the world in mission. During the summer of 2025, we will be exploring this theme in a variety of ways. What does it mean for the church to be “on fire”? How is God’s Holy Spirit related to the mission of our congregation? How can we be more open to God’s Spirit? Where might God’s Spirit take us?
We will be taking a slow path through the book of Acts, exploring stories that may be both familiar and unfamiliar, that describe the mission of the early church. Plan to join us for this inspiring, exciting sermon series, as we receive God’s power and direction and guidance!

RED BANNERS

You may have noticed that the Pentecost Banners and Paraments continue to hang in the sanctuary. Red is the Liturgical Color associated with Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit. Typically, red paraments and banners are commonly used on Pentecost Sunday and, in some congregations (such as Lewinsville), on Reformation Sunday. This year, however, with our Summer Sermon Series theme, “The Church on Fire: The Book of Acts and Our Mission,” the Pastors and the Worship Ministry decided that it was appropriate to extend the “Red Season” through the Summer to remind us of the Holy Spirit as we journey through the book of Acts.
