GET CONNECTED with our CHURCH FAMILY … responding to human need

Friday, May 1

Daily Devotions are published Tuesday-Saturday during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Philippians 4:13 (NIV)
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Devotion
I have taken this verse out of context because it gives me the courage to face life’s daily problems and challenges. In Philippians 4:10-14, Paul is writing from prison and thanking the church at Philippi for their help.  He said he was content in all situations. If you do everything through Christ, you will be ok because he lives in us and loves us. Many times, Paul mentions that when we have Christ in us, Christ will enable us, but we have to rely on him and not on our own strength and wisdom.

Some Christian athletes use this verse to “psych” themselves up to win a game or a contest, but that’s not what Paul meant. What it means is that if you have Christ, you have the strength to do all things because he is all you need. In these uncertain times, with the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated problems, when I feel depressed, weary, or uncertain, this verse assures me and gives me the hope and strength I need.

Prayer
Dear Lord, thank you for your love and for giving me strength to face life’s daily problems.  Knowing you are there for me, helps me cope and get through my struggles. Amen.
