June 13, 2020:

Our most recent faith and public policy event was on Saturday, June 13, 2020, via Zoom video conference. The subject was COVID-19: Exploring Community Needs & Responses.

The COVID-19 crisis has brought suffering worldwide and in our local community, especially among the most vulnerable. In this program, we learned about the impacts in Northern Virginia and work on discerning how we, as individuals and as a congregation, can help.

Speakers included Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust and representatives from three local nonprofits: Pete Snyder of the VA 30-Day Fund., which is working to support small businesses during the crisis; Jorge Figueredo of Edu-Futuro, which works with immigrant youth and their families; and Lewinsville’s own Renie Ruehlin, who is a board member of  SHARE , our local food pantry. In addition, we heard from Dave Porterfield of Lewinsville’s Mission & Service Ministry Group about the needs they have observed, and how Lewinsville has responded so far.  As with all Faith & Public Policy programs, ample time will be allowed for discussion.

Hosts on the call were Jill Cook and Cathy Saunders. View the entire video conference here:
