Open Handed Generosity

The theme for our 2027 Stewardship Campaign is “Open-Handed Generosity.” Which raises the question for us: Open hands, or closed fists?

These are two different ways to live our lives. One is to live with generosity, vulnerability, and gratitude. The other is to live with defensiveness, fear, and an oppositional posture towards the world.

The “way of the closed fist” is the primary mode for our society in our fractious and hostile age. What we know is that it is a way that leads to violence, isolation, and brokenness.

The “way of the open hand” is an alternative posture, one that follows the way of Christ. God invites you and me to live with open-handed generosity, offering ourselves, our time, and our resources to others.

Your open-handed generosity makes the mission and ministry of Lewinsville Presbyterian Church possible.

  1. Your giving of time.
  2. Your sharing your talents and skills.
  3. Your sharing your influence in the circles within which you move.
  4. Your giving of your financial resources.

The Stewardship Committee and I would encourage you to consider increasing your financial commitment to Lewinsville so that we as a faith community can continue to serve others. Your financial commitment not only supports the mission and ministry of our congregation, but also can help you to open your hands, your heart, and your life to the mission of God. Open-handed generosity is the way that we want to live.

If you have any questions about the 2027 Stewardship Campaign, feel free to contact Pastor Scott or Lloyd Mustin, chair of the Stewardship Committee.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to make a pledge?

The church asks each year for estimates of giving to assist with budgeting for expenditures in the coming year. Making a pledge is an informal commitment to contribute financially in the coming year. Making a financial pledge is also a spiritual commitment to share in the mission and ministry of Lewinsville Presbyterian Church.

How do I pay my pledge?

You can request weekly offering envelopes, place a check in the offering plate on Sunday, or set up and manage a recurring contribution online.

I take my commitments seriously. I’m thinking about pledging, but I’m concerned about my employment status. If I have a change in my status, can I adjust my pledge?

Yes, your estimate of giving can be changed (up or down) at any time for any reason in a confidential way. Just contact the Church Financial Manager at 703-356-7200 ext. 312

I don’t have a lot of financial resource to give right now. Will my pledge of a small amount make a difference?

Yes! If everyone in the congregation committed to give even a small amount, the church could surpass our current level of giving. Your gift makes a great deal of difference – not only to the church, but in your own life, as well. Making and keeping a financial pledge to the church helps keep all our financial activity in a spiritual perspective, recognizing that all we have is a gift from God.

What does it mean to be a good steward?

In modern terms, a steward is a ‘manager,’ given responsibility to administer faithfully all that God has entrusted to us – making a difference in the world as a follower of Jesus Christ.

I have given faithfully in the past, but I have never made a formal pledge. Why should I?

We appreciate all the gifts made to the church, but formal pledges help us plan financially and program ministries and outreach accordingly.

When does my pledge go into effect?

January 1, 2027

Will Lewinsville send me statements?

Yes, if you give, you will receive a quarterly statement of your contributions for your tax records and to confirm the accuracy of our records.

If you have any questions about giving or pledging, please contact the Church Financial Manager at 703-356-7200.
