Doing justice is a common Biblical theme, and there are passages (Micah 6:8) that suggest it is central to Godly living. But what exactly does that mean? Does the Bible offer a coherent view of the nature of justice? If so, how is it related to other Biblical themes, such as the love ethic? Nicholas Wolterstorff is a leading American philosopher who has devoted much of his career to answering those questions. JOURNEY TOWARD JUSTICE is his most recent statement on the subject. It is a quite personal book in which he explains how first got interested in the topic and how the experiences that led him to devote so much attention to it have shaped his thinking. The book also has much to say about the relationship between Biblical teaching and other views of justice, such as the modern idea of human rights.
Participants will be expected to read portions of the book each week, on this schedule:
– July 12: chapters 1-6
July 19: ch. 11-17
– July 26: ch. 6-10
– August 2: ch. 20-24
