Fairfax Interfaith Coalition Volunteer Opportunities
The McLean Interfaith Coalition has a new name to reflect the addition to the Coalition of congregations in Reston and Great Falls. The new name, the Fairfax Interfaith Coalition for Habitat (FICH), better reflects both the geographic area of the congregations participating and the purpose of the Coalition, namely to support Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia (HfHNV) activities and builds.
Lewinsville has been part of the McLean Interfaith Coalition (now Fairfax Interfaith Coalition for Habitat) since 2004, working with other congregations in McLean and Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia to build and repair affordable housing in the local area. In September 2016 Habitat dedicated two new homes in Alexandria which volunteers from the McLean Interfaith Coalition, including some from Lewinsville, helped build. Below is a photo of the completed houses.
Upcoming workdays for FICH with HfHNV are listed below. In we will be working in Lorton rehabbing an existing townhouse and we will be working on a new single-family house in the Alexandria portion of Fairfax County, a few blocks from the two single-family Habitat homes completed in 2016, and other places. The workday is from 8:45-3:30.
Workdays for the winter and spring are:
Volunteers supply their own lunch and Habitat supplies water and tools. If you bring your own tools, be sure they are identified with your name. If you’re interested in joining volunteers from other local congregations on any of the scheduled work days, contact Mary Frase, the Lewinsville representative to FICH, firstname.lastname@example.org or 703-536-4091.
